CITT – Canada’s Logistics Association – has announced that the Northwest Territories-based College of Northern Canada (CNC) has been recognized as its newest Centre of Excellence in Logistics Learning.
CNC is the first educational provider in the Northwest Territories – and all of Northern Canada – to receive this gold-standard status.
Beginning in May 2024, CNC offers a pathway that includes all the academic requirements for graduates to earn the CITT-Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP®) designation. The partnership between CNC and CITT also gives students enhanced connection to industry employers and a national, professional network. This CITT Centre of Excellence strengthens CNC’s diverse educational services currently offered, such as the courses and professional trainings through the Centre of Indigenous Affairs and Governance, Centre for Environment and Sustainability, Centre of Executive Education, and Centre of Pathways to Professional Designations – among others.
“We are tremendously pleased to recognize the program at CNC and to begin working with them to deliver elite logistics training to Northern Canada,” says Pina Melchionna, President & CEO of CITT. “The logistics challenges of remote communities and Indigenous Peoples are complex. As Canada’s Logistics Association, we have identified developing and delivering training in this area as a key priority for Canada’s supply chain strategy and part of our journey to economic reconciliation,” she continued. “CITT is looking forward to close collaboration with CNC and building the talent to create strong, reliable logistics operations throughout Northern Canada and beyond.”
“We are honoured to be recognized as the first Centre of Excellence in Logistics Learning in Northern Canada,” says Dr. Chehrazade Aboukinane, Environment, Sustainability Expert and CNC President. “As an enthusiastic environmentalist, I believe that providing world-class logistics education – tailored to the unique needs of northern and Indigenous communities – is an important way of protecting the environment, addressing various supply chain issues, and supporting self- governance and self-determination initiatives of Indigenous peoples across Canada.”
Tom Beaulieu, Former Minister of NWT Transportation and CNC Indigenous Advisor, also lauded the announcement.
“I commend the College of Northern Canada (CNC) and CITT for establishing the first Centre of Excellence in Logistics Learning in Northern Canada. This great initiative will serve as a catalyst to advance the priorities we formulated in the Northwest Territories (NWT) Transportation Strategy 2015-2040. The road, air, rail, and marine transportation systems play a critical role in the history and development of the Northwest Territories and continue to support sustainable communities and a growing economy into the future.”
