Course Description

In any corporation or business, financial decision-making revolves around investment, financial, and asset management. You already have a good knowledge of mathematics and now want to explore the principles of corporate finance. Financial Management will introduce you to the principles of finance and its applications. You’ll learn and how finance impacts the development of an effective business strategy and examine, step-by-step, the processes that result in sound financial decisions for a range of business enterprises.

Financial Management is a recommended prerequisite for Logistics Decision Modelling

Topics include:

  • Time value of money
  • Valuation of financial securities (e.g. bonds and stocks)
  • Choice of new projects to undertake (e.g. capital budgeting)
  • Determination of appropriate discount rates
  • Short-term finance of planning

Course grads will be able to:

  • Conduct a financial-ratio analysis
  • Be familiar with forecasting policy
  • Be familiar with capital budgeting and how to calculate related cost/risk factors
  • Strategize with short/long-term financing


Course Work and Final Exam

Course work for Financial Management includes a series of assignments which are due throughout the semester.

Your final exam will be held at an exam centre local to you—the University of Toronto coordinates exam centres across Canada, and internationally when necessary. Exam dates cannot be changed. Visit the course calendar page to see exam dates for upcoming semesters as they are scheduled.

 

Learning Assessment & Grades

Grades are reported as Honours, Pass, or Fail. To obtain a Pass, learners must obtain a minimum grade of 50%. To achieve Honours, learners must earn a total grade of 80% or higher.
